Ellis氏)Salem, Mass [Massachusetts] Apr 26 ʻ86Dear General Goshorn, I have lately had intrusted [sic] to me a large collection of Japanese tea jars with their brocade bags and boxes. Most of them are somewhat duplicated in my collection though there [are] a number I must have, the bulk of them I must dispose of and rather to have go in smaller lots to private parties [dealers?] it has occurred to me that possibly your museum might take the larger number about 150 at the price of eleven hundred dollars. I should expect to properly identify and name them all from my own collection. If there is no desire to [do] this, I can make two lots of them, one lot of 50 at [$]500.00, and the other lot of 100 at [$]600.00. I may add that the few tea jars to be found among the dealers in N.Y. [New York] are for sale at 30 to 40 dollars a piece.Would you kindly let me know whether you can, for such a collection there seemed to be a final desire on the part of Mrs. Maria Longworth Storer that my collection should ultimately go to your museum, and I would add that if such a thing should happen in the future, I would take back the tea jars at the price paid for them.Very Thankfully,Edw S Morse
