本章には室町・桃山時代の狩野派(1〜99番)と漢画を中心とした桃山諸派(100〜167番)の絵画(伝承作品を含む)を収録した。「初期狩野派」ではおおむね作者の活躍時期順、「桃山諸派」では長谷川派(100〜107番)、海北派(108〜116番)、雲谷派(117〜133番)、曽我派(134〜150番)、その他(151〜167番)の順に配列した。また、作者不明のものや伝承作者名のない作品は制作時期に基づき配列した。This section includes paintings by the early Kano school (Muromachi through Momoyama periods, Nos. 1−100) and works by their contemporaries executed primarily in the Chinese style (kanga; Nos. 100−166), The works of the early Kano school are arranged chronologically according to when each artist was active.
