6 本章に収録した仏画と垂述画は、まず制作された時代で大きく区分けした。 奈良時代 （1番） 平安時代 （2〜11番） 鎌倉時代 （12〜67番） 南北朝時代 （68〜79番） 室町時代 （80〜163番） 桃山時代 （164, 165番） 江戸時代 （166〜232番） 明治時代 （233〜255番） 時代不詳の作品は最後に置いてある（256〜260番）それぞれの時代の中では、主題別に配列した。その配列順はおおよそ、密教曼茶羅、如来像、菩□像、明王像、天部像、変相図、来迎図、仏伝図、垂迹画、羅漢図、高僧図、図像とした。This section includes both Buddhist and Shintō paintings.The works are arranged first by period as follows：Edo period Meiji era Those of indeterminate date have been included at the end（Nos.256−260）Within each period the paintings are arranged by iconography in the following order: Esoteric mandalas, Buddhas（nyorai），bodhisattvas（bosatsu）, wisdom kings（myōō）, devas（ten）, visions of paradise（hensō）, descents of Buddhist deities（raigō）, pictorial biographies of the Buddha and Buddhist patriarchs（butsuden）, syncretic Buddhist and Shintō subjects（suijaku）, arhats （rakan）, and partiarchs（kōsō）.
